World Pipe Band Championships

Look at this happy bunch of pipers. Would you believe they’re actually Canadian? Simon Fraser University’s bagpipe squad won last year’s world championship title: teams from as far afield as New Zealand, Pakistan and, er, Paisley keep their eyes (and their lungs) on the prize. It’s not just all about the competition, though; you can skirl with the Highland Dancing Showcase, dodge carelessly tossed cabers at the Glasgow Highland Games, or stuff your face with smoked salmon, as Taste of Scotland are setting up their luxury food village in the arena.
Glasgow Green, Sat 14 Aug, £9 (family ticket £23). See www.theworlds.co.uk for full details.

World Pipe Band Championships

The best pipe bands from all over the world, featuring 8,000 pipers and drummers, compete for the most prestigious prizes and the coveted World Champion crown. As well as the music, a dedicated children's zone, gourmet food and Highland games add to the day out.
