Julie Hesmondhalgh
Julie Hesmondhalgh admits she would love to continue playing her 'Coronation Street' alter-ego Hayley Cropper until the show's 100th anniversary, in 50 years time.
Julie Hesmondhalgh is determined to stay in 'Coronation Street' until the 100th anniversary.
The actress - who has played transsexual Hayley Cropper in the ITV1 soap for 12 years - can't wait for the show's landmark 50th birthday in December, and would love to continue portraying her lovable character for another 50 years.
The 40-year-old actress told BANG Showbiz: "I absolutely intend to be there for the 100th anniversary. Maybe a few less episodes. Betty's 90 now, and I will be 90 in 50 years time - I've worked it out. I've been thinking that I could still be here then. I was there for the 40th and hopefully - if I'm spared - I'll be here for the 50th and on to the 100th."
Julie loves appearing in the show and wants to remain in front of the camera until she's on her deathbed, as long as her final scenes are peaceful.
She added: "I hope they won't get rid of me - but can you imagine being there for the 100th anniversary? That'd be great! They could kill me off then - I'd just die quietly in my sleep. I don't want an action death, I don't want to be burnt alive in a factory or anything like that - not at 90. Just quietly into the good night."
