Relationship drama en pointe

The dance world is full of labels, styles and genres. But sometimes, pigeonholing just isn’t possible. When Gavin de Paor and Laura Macias started Pasodos Dance Company – first in Dublin, then moving to Spain — they just wanted to ‘do their own thing’. Both are trained in ballet, but moved into other areas. So where does that leave their Fringe show?

‘Sorry, Love! is a narrative dance and that’s the best way we can describe it,’ says de Paor. ‘It’s hard to classify our work, because it’s not modern dance, it’s not dance theatre, and although ballet is our base it’s not that either. Hopefully people will see the show with an open mind, allowing it to be what it is.’

Scripted by playwright Joe O’Byrne, the story follows the stormy relationship of a married couple. Featuring a new score and pre-recorded text, Sorry, Love! is fuelled with emotion. ‘Performing the show is a huge drain, physically and emotionally,’ says de Paor. ‘There are only two dancers on stage for an hour and 20 minutes, so it’s a mini-marathon.’
