'Mean Girls' actress Lindsay Lohan is reportedly being lined up to appear on the judging panel of the next series of 'American Idol'.

Lindsay Lohan is reportedly being lined up to appear as a judge on the next series of 'American Idol'.

The actress - who appeared in court on Monday (24.05.10) over drink driving charges - is just one star on a list drawn up by show bosses in a bid to maintain the popularity of the talent contest once Simon Cowell leaves.

A source at US network Fox told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "'American Idol' was our top show and a lot of that had to do with the love-hate relationship between Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell. Then Paula left and now Simon's going, too.

"We want a regular explosive dynamic between the judges. Lindsay has music experience and unpredictability."

Meanwhile, it has been announced that former judge Paula Abdul will return to 'American Idol' to say goodbye to her friend and mark Simon's final show tonight (26.05.10) - after nine series on the programme.

The music mogul is leaving to launch the US version of 'X Factor' next year.
