Velvet ladies have more than one reason to celebrate this fortnight. Not only is the much-missed club night for gay and bisexual women and their male LGBTI buddies returning after an absence of two years, it’s all taking place at a fabulous new venue run by women.
The Velvet Re-Launch Party will pitch up at the SpeakEasy on Blair Street, a stone’s throw from the Tron Bar and the City Café – the result of a two-year search for a new home for the not-for-profit, volunteer-run club after the fire that burned Velvet’s former home Mariners to the ground.
‘Many of our Velvet regulars have had very few nights out, and some none, since Velvet took time out,’ says club organiser Jean Genie. ‘So we are all very excited about meeting up again to hang out with friends, meet new friends and to dance to fab tunes.’
With DJs Trendy Wendy and Jeremy providing the music alongside the regular Velvet DJs it’s likely to be a night to remember. And there’s more to come, with future Velvet dates already pencilled in for June and July.
