Woodpigeon, with Laura Gibson and Wounded Knee

This Canadian musical collective was originally named Woodpigeon Divided By Antelope Equals Squirrel. Now boasting less words, but eight members in all, this gig will be a homecoming of sorts, as frontman Mark Hamilton (pictured) started the band while living in Edinburgh, and working at Fopp. Their new album Die Stadt Muzikanten is described as: ‘Arcade Fire with ration books and gas masks, or Elliot Smith fronting Sparklehorse’ and sits nicely alongside the likes of Sufjan Stevens, Teenage Fanclub and Grizzly Bear. Support comes from Portland-based singer-songwriter, Laura Gibson plus old Woodpigeon pal, Wounded Knee.

Cabaret Voltaire, Edinburgh, Sun 2 May.
