The Libertine

Strathclyde Theatre Group tackles Stephen Jeffreys’ play about the notorious 17th century rake and philanderer John Wilmot, the second Earl of Rochester, also known as ‘the profane Earl’, who was regularly banished from the court of King Charles II. Jeffreys’ comedy of manners focuses on Rochester’s relationships with the two most important women in his life, the famous actress Elizabeth Barry, and the heiress he kidnapped and later married.

Ramshorn Theatre, Glasgow, Fri 7–Sat 15 May.
