Central Station: Eggmachine
This week’s showcase of what’s hot in the contemporary art world is eggmachine, the alter ego of Gerry Thomson, who runs the woodworking shop at Glasgow’s Southside Studios, where he also creates work. Gerry, who graduated from Glasgow College of Building and Printing in 2000, makes beautiful, functional furniture using CLUC, a multi-textural material specially developed from scrap wood destined for landfill such as chipboard, hardwoods, softwoods, plywoods, plastics and MDF. Gerry’s commissions include Café Gramofon in the Merchant City and the Flying Duck nightclub, and he is currently working on a range of products for the retail market.
