The Queer Ball Launch Party

The venerated Lothians Gay and Lesbian Switchboard Ball may have gone to the great gathering place in the sky, but those who love dressing up and making merry have a new reason to dig out their glad rags. The Queer Ball Launch Party, which pitches up at Edinburgh’s Assembly Rooms this fortnight, is the first of a bi-annual event aimed at the whole of Scotland’s LGBTI community, and features a varied programme to suit all ages, genders and tastes.

The first event, which aims to raise money for the LGBT Centre for Health and Wellbeing in the capital, takes place across multiple rooms and bars, including a dance space with DJ and local institution Trendy Wendy and a ceilidh with music courtesy of the Shoogle Sisters. Revellers will also be entertained over the course of the evening by a host of acts, including same sex ballroom champions and darlings of last year’s Fringe The Sugar Dandies as well as Daiquiri Dusk (pictured), the Scots burlesque star who appeared on Britain’s Got Talent. The reasonably priced drinks are provided by Giuliano’s restaurants.

Tickets are a snip at £15 from the Regent Bar, the Street and Café Nom de Plume as well as Tickets Scotland and Ripping Records.
