Alphabeat

It’s always a dubious honour, spearheading a movement or new sub genre, so when Alphabeat were proclaimed the jewel in the crown of ‘wonky pop’ a year or so ago it was a double-edged sword. Especially because wonky pop turned out to be a total chocolate fireguard of a genre and the Danish quintet are way more astute than the pigeonhole might suggest. They’ve traded up their B-52s influenced jangle for a sleeker electropop vibe, claiming Snap! and Black Box as influences, which, as wrong as it may sound, might just work.
