Publicity shy Johnny Depp
'Public Enemies' actor Johnny Depp finds it strange when people call him a ''celebrity''.
Johnny Depp doesn't think he is famous.
The award-winning actor - who rose to fame in 1984's 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' - finds it strange when people refer to him as a "celebrity" and prefers to hide away from the public spotlight.
He said: "I can't think of myself in terms of celebrity. It's just too weird. If the choice is between being gawked at and sitting in a chair in a dark room, I prefer the dark room."
Despite his glowing Hollywood credentials, the 46-year-old star insists he never sought fame and became successful by chance.
He explained: "I've never felt particularly ambitious or driven. Everything I've done has happened because it's happened."
Instead, Johnny - who has two children, Lily-Rose, 10, and seven-year-old Jack with his girlfriend Vanessa Paradis - says his only ambition is to make his loved-ones proud.
He added to Britain's Daily Telegraph newspaper: "I'm just an actor and if I can leave something behind that my kids will be proud of then that's what I want. I don't want my kids to be embarrassed of anything I've done."
