Phoenix: Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix (4 stars)

Phoenix: Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix

Phoenix are really rather brilliant, it’s just a shame more people don’t know it. Criminally underrated for most of their career, the French quartet return with this fourth effort; which, cringey title aside, is by far their most accomplished and infectious album to date.

From jaunty opener ‘Lisztomania’ onwards, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix is a heady canter through euphoric indie pop at its finest, driven by sweet vocals, shimmering synths, scratchy riffs and playful rhythms. And on the back of this top notch new material, Phoenix could well be one of your most thrilling musical discoveries this summer – yes, that good, really.
