First Word: Chris Addison
Manc comic Chris Addison is a regular on TV panel shows and acts alongside James Gandolfini and Steve Coogan in Brit flick In the Loop. Here, he reveals his love of risotto, The Wire and the Wii
First record you ever bought
‘You Can Call Me Al’, Paul Simon. Fall at my feet, ye tastemakers.
Last time you were chatted up
My wife was very complimentary when asking me to put the kettle on the other day. Is that the sort of thing?
First film you saw that really moved you
The Killing Fields. I couldn’t talk afterwards.
Last lie you told
That one about the first record I bought. I’m not giving that hostage to fortune up to no one, buster.
First movie you ever went on a date to
Batman Returns. It was a long, long adolescence, believe me.
Last time you cried
Almost certainly the last time I watched The West Wing. Sorkin has me round his little finger, so he does.
First thing you do when you’ve got time off work
Worry about where the work went. I’m such a Protestant.
Last great meal you cooked
A gorgonzola and broad bean risotto. Or was it the wine that was good? So hard to tell.
Last extravagant purchase you made
I bought a Wii yesterday because I’d played one with my godchildren and it was ace. Now it’s sitting there having to compete with a box-set of The Wire. No chance.
First crush
My childhood best friend Sarah. She was a proper force of nature.
Last book you read
Moondust by Andrew Smith – an incredibly moving biography of the men who returned from the moon.
First great piece of advice you were given
‘Watch the ball, you idiot.’
Last time you were star struck
I don’t usually, but I get slightly star struck every time I work with Graeme Garden – he was such a childhood hero of mine and always my favourite Goodie.
First thing you’d do if you ran the country
Re-advertise the position.
Last meal on earth – what would it be
My dad’s schnitzel and fried potatoes.
First time you realised you were famous
I’m not. I have that peculiar brand of fame where I’m only famous to people who knew who I was in the first place.
Last time someone criticised your work
Alistair Campbell had a right old go at In The Loop in the Guardian the other week. He seemed quite cross.
First three words your friends would use to describe you
Still not here.
Last time you made an impulse buy and regretted it
That Wii, I think.
First concert you ever attended
First gig was The House of Love (supported by East Village, as I recall) at Manchester Poly in 1988. I’d been going to classical concerts since I was little, so I’ve no idea what the first one was. Probably the Halle Orchestra playing Peter and the Wolf.
Last time you bought someone flowers
My mum gave her first paper at a conference and I sent her some to her hotel.
First thing you think of when you wake up in the morning
Other people’s children sleep longer.
Last thing you think of before you go to sleep
I wish I had more time to read this book.
Chris plays Toby in In the Loop, released nationwide by Optimum from Fri 17 Apr.
