POP
Originally self-released last year, these sultry Glasgow-popstrels’ sophomore album gets a re-boot on local label Neon Tetra, with extra polish.
Well, the cover art – featuring front lady Louise Quinn poised daringly on a Glasgow rooftop in a skimpy dress – is snazzier, anyway. What’s inside remains pretty so-so. Quinn’s voice is effortlessly seductive (Madonna has even given it a thumbs-up) and opener ‘The Glimmer Song’ is the sort of swinging, glamorous number that the last Goldfrapp record could arguably have benefited from. Yet the rest is largely wispy, electronica-fringed pop that, but for all its light sprinkling of attitude, would sit comfortably on the coffee table.
