It’s dark in the mornings, so why not live nocturnally? As DJs get into training for Hogmanay – the biggest night in the clubbing calendar – Jasper Hamill and Kirstin Innes round up the best-lookin’ Christmas parties
Glasgow
A merry little xxxmas
Family values be damned: Death Disco shows a sleazier, sexier side to the season of goodwill, with the usual array of interactive club theatrics, high-glam outfits and leftfield sounds courtesy of the Glimmers.

Boxing pressure
A memorable Christmas doesn’t always have to be one you actually remember. Blow off the Boxing Day cobwebs at Pressure’s party, which features the fine gentlemen of Optimo, Slam and Silicone Soul. Then make a New Year’s resolution to live a healthier life. Until next time, of course.

Rockabilly round the Christmas tree
Put the glamour back into your economy-starved Xmas at Rockaburley, with burlesque baubles Cat Aclysmic, Miss Golden De Licious and Miss Hell’s Belle, and a dirty rockabilly Hogmanay soundtrack courtesy of DJ Aaron, the least excitingly named member of the entourage.

Two become one
Just like last year, the Sub Club and the Classic Grand are merging to become one big Clydeside superclub this Hogmanay. And Andrew Weatherall will be the king! Superstar DJs, here we go.

O Come all ye faithful
Trading up somewhat from their usual subterranean bolt hole, Optimo’s Twitch and Wilkes make use of the huge spaces of the Fruitmarket to stage another eclectic multimedia extravaganza. Have yourself a hipster Hogmanany.

Edinburgh
A blu, blu Christmas
Usher in the season of hedonism gently, with live house music and laid-back grooves from Tokyo Blu, some of Edinburgh’s favourite party starters.

Taste the turkey
If you can persuade your mum to let you out on Christmas night, the unnervingly dedicated Taste DJs (Fisher & Price, with Miss Chris) have revived their much missed night as a perfect post-binge calorie burner: jiggle it all off with some gay-friendly, hands-in-the-air madness. And they’re doing it all over again on New Year’s Day if your hangover can take it …

In the black midwinter
With Edinburgh’s first Hogmanay rock night in four years downstairs and retro 60s pop upstairs, Studio 24’s double-header hopes to pack in the punters left cold by usual New Year proceedings. The Retribution mob have an extra special surprise: a house band made up from all the best of Edinburgh’s rock and metal bands. No word on whether they will be doing requests yet. Fingers crossed!

Ghosts of Christmas past
The festive season ain’t what it used to be, so boogie back in time with Motherfunk’s old-fangled Hogmanay, all libinous funk, smooth soul and vintage hip hop.
