Finding gold in the everyday dirt

By the end of his self-introduction, before he's even reached the stage, David O'Doherty has his audience braying like donkeys. The Dublin comic has done so many consistently enjoyable Fringe shows that getting laughs must be like shooting fish in a frying pan by now, but this year's act could be his best yet. Armed as usual with some cute plastic keyboards (he proudly puts the 'aha' in 'Yamaha'), O'Doherty's observational nose and comedic instincts have never been keener. Like a Klondike prospector, he can root in the dirt of the everyday and come up with shining lumps of truly hilarious truth.

In a set which has scarcely a ten-second gap between guffaws, highlights include a text chat put to music, a lesson in self-defence as applied to board games and an inspired list of modern-life quibbles. Gentle, silly and even a little moving in his gentle silly way, David O'Doherty is an outright gift.

That man deserves every comedy award in the world.
Seen him the 3rd time at the festival this year and you would think it couldn't get better after the shows of the last 2 years.
It just does....from year to year, minute to minute.
Five stars and an extra one for being so down to earth! (He came to the venue with his bicycle...all the way from Dublin? ;))
