Scouting For Girls

British quartet taking chart domination in their stride

What a rollercoaster ride it’s been for this London-based indie pop outfit since ‘She’s So Lovely’ crashed into the top ten in 2007. Typical of their instantly catchy, mass-audience appeal, the single had four old school friends finally leaving behind their tiny toilet circuit performances to become one of the UK’s most adored new acts. Scouting for Girls’ eponymous debut album hit the top spot early this year and has since gone on to achieve platinum status, and while the Wolfcub club - the trio’s smart fan-attracting strategy of free CDs, cheap gig entry, membership cards, booklets and badges — certainly had a hand in recent achievements by raising their online profile, most of this success can be attributed to frontman Roy Stride’s unwavering self-belief and knack for churning out radio-friendly choruses and boisterous live shows.

The band are giving Edinburgh devotees a chance to catch them live before they embark on a huge winter tour, and if frontman Stride’s recent comments are anything to go by, Scouting for Girls seem to be settling in nicely to fame. ‘To be honest, we’re all still pinching ourselves,’ he said. ‘It has been a real whirlwind, but we were always going to do this.’ Confident words indeed, but who can doubt them.
