Field Music
Tones of Town (Memphis Industries)
INDIE
Although their drummer Dave Brewis is a sometime Futurehead, Sunderland’s Field Music take a refreshingly different tack from their new wave apeing compatriots. There are still a good deal of crunching, right-angled guitars in the mix, but Brewis, his brother Pete and Andrew Moore add an element of post-beat group psychedelia to proceedings.
‘A House Is Not a Home’ references Love, while ‘Working to Work’ is a breezy pop track and ‘She Can Do What She Wants’ features a meaty psych guitar riff. They overdo the stop-start guitars with overlaid strings just a bit, but at least they sound like very little else out there at the moment.
