About Us
Company History and What We Do
The List is an independent limited company based in Scotland. The magazine was launched in October 1985 with two main aims: to publicise and promote the wide range of arts and entertainment taking place throughout the year in Glasgow and Edinburgh and to publish a general interest magazine of quality in Scotland. The company now produces a series of additional titles and supplements and is at the forefront of gathering and collating events information for a wide variety of publications, organisations and new media. The List is a member of the Periodical Publishers Association (PPA).
Circulation
Sales of the magazine vary over the year and are linked to the major events and cycles in the Scottish arts and entertainment scene. The print-run of the magazine averages 18,000 copies per issue and increases to 25,000 copies for special issues. The magazine has a regular readership of 58,670 and a peak readership of 112,280 young, socially active Scots. The List is a member of the Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC).
Content
All events listings in the magazine are published free of charge and are accompanied by informative, independent critical comment offering a guide to readers as to what is worth seeing and why. Articles and features are also included in each issue previewing forthcoming events in greater detail. The magazine carries full colour and mono advertising alongside the editorial pages and has an extensive Classified section at the rear. Recruitment ads, flatshares, personals and lineage ads form the backbone of this very popular section.
Guides and Supplements
Throughout the year The List also publishes a number of special issues to support major arts events and festivals in both Glasgow and Edinburgh. These include T in the Park, the Edinburgh International Festival and Fringe, the Edinburgh International Film Festival, The Edinburgh International Book Festival, Gig on the Green and Glasgow and Edinburgh Hogmanay. It also publishes a series of major guides such as the Eating & Drinking Guide, the Deli & Good Food Directory to Scotland, the Student Guide and the Bar Guide.
Research and Information Services
Beyond the day-to-day publishing, The List is also the official supplier of information about events in all parts of Scotland to VisitScotland for publication online and in print. It also supplies regional information on a contract basis to a number of other major clients.
Employees
The List has a permanent staff of 28 people and also uses the services of around 30 freelancers for each issue.
New website
At the beginning of August 2007 The List relaunched its website - list.co.uk. The launch comes as the magazine prepares for an exciting new phase in its development and begins to roll out new content and services online.
