About Us
Company History and What We Do
The List is an independent limited company based in Scotland founded, in October 1985, by Robin Hodge who remains the Publisher. The List's aim was to publicise and promote the wide range of arts, events and entertainment taking place throughout the year in Scotland through publication of The List, a general interest magazine of quality in Scotland.
The company continues to follow its original aim and now publishes a multiple award winning website www.list.co.uk covering events across the UK, Other publishing activities cover the eating and drinking sector, the Edinburgh festivals, Scottish students and music events. The List is a member of the Periodical Publishers Association (PPA).
Audience
Readership of the The List varies over the year and is linked to the major events and cycles in the Scottish arts and entertainment scene but is over 60,000 a month. The List is a member of the Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC). The List is the best selling arts and entertainment magazine in Scotland
The List website, www.list.co.uk is one of the largest events and entertainment websites in the UK with a peak audience of over 1,040,000 (unique users in November 2012) and a regular audience of over 990,000 (Source: Google Analytics).

Content
All events listings are published free of charge and are accompanied by informative, independent critical comment offering a guide to readers as to what is worth seeing and why. Further information is provided on how to list a new event and to enhance an existing listing. Articles and features previewing forthcoming events offer in depth information.
Further print publishing activities
Throughout the year The List publishes a number of special issues covering major arts events and festivals. These include T in the Park, the Edinburgh International Festival and Fringe, the Edinburgh International Film Festival, The Edinburgh International Book Festival, Glasgay and Hogmanay in Glasgow and Edinburgh. It also publishes a series of guides such as Dundee - The Insiders guide, Eating & Drinking Guide of restaurant reviews; The Larder - a guide to Scotland's food and drink; an annual Student Guide; a Scottish Festival Guide and an Edinburgh City Guide.
Digital activities
Our website list.co.uk has comprehensive listings of arts and entertainments across UK, and well beyond the distribution of The List in print. It offers readers the fastest and simplest service for planning cultural and entertainment activities with a proximity based interface to allow users to select events in their area. It offers independent views on events and gives users the opportunity to publish comments and feedback on performances and on cultural and local news items. We also operate a site dedicated to Film film.list.co.uk and one dedicated to the Edinburgh Festivals list.co.uk/festival. In addition to www.list.co.uk we have a site for our food title, The Larder www.thelarder.net.
The List is a leading member of the group of organisations who developed an International Venue and Event Standard (IVES) www.ives.info.
The LIST Card
The List has launched a dining promotion scheme aligned with its other food,eating and drinking sector activities. It provides promotional opportunities to restaurants and the chance to eat on a 2 for 1 introductory basis to card holders. See www.list.co.uk/card.
Research and Information Services
Beyond day-to-day publishing of events listings in The List and online, The List also supplies information about events across Scotland to a number of organisations, and publications, including STV, SportScotland, Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, Destination Edinburgh Marketing Alliance, and a number of Scottish newspapers. The List also offers event promoters the opportunity to submit new event listings and enhance existing ones with detailed information, links and multimedia. Read more about this.
Employees
The List has a permanent staff of c. 25 people and also uses the services of around 30 freelancers.
